Amidst the shadows of Velistad's western frontier exists the prosperous village of Flain, sanctuary to travelers and traders alike. As of yet, Flain has remained untouched by the mysterious events surrounding the discovery of the mana springs within the Kingdom. Recently however, in the darkest hours of the night, Flain has become haunted by screams of unspeakable madness emanating from Willowsong Woods. Each night the howls gain in strength. Livestock have begun to vanish, only to reappear as eviscerated corpses. Rumors have begun to spread rampant of the dead walking amongst the living. With haste, a messenger takes the road to seek aid from Duke Severus.
